Before diving into the lives of Christian music artists, I feel it is important to introduce my experiences with the music business as a music artist myself. Before coming back to Jesus, I was a recording artist, songwriter, and model. I grew up idolizing pop and R&B celebrities, yearning for the spotlight; a chance to showcase my vocal abilities. I was surrounded by individuals who pushed me to be “sexy” because “sex sells”. I was encouraged to model for magazines and liquor companies that didn’t align with who I was.
Since my exit, it has become easier for me to understand how I fell into the abyss of secular music and how Satan utilizes music to lure us into sinful ways. To be transparent, I still listen to certain songs but find it increasingly difficult as my relationship with the Lord grows stronger (Old habits die hard and I pray about this on a daily basis).
It has been 5 years since I have written a song. I have come to the conclusion that God has answered my prayers as it pertains to my gift he has blessed me with. When I hold my pen and paper, the only lyrics I am able to produce, are about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. With that being said, I’ve made the conscious decision to begin songwriting and recording again.
